The International Assistant is primarily responsible to assist with the process of Letter of Credit amendments and updates, Documentary Collections under import and export transactions, to communicates to customers details of the transactions and to processes them in a timely manner and according to procedures and governing rules. Also, processes payments to foreign banks for correspondent bank fees, monitors our Accounts Receivable GL, balances all daily and monthly accounts for the department, prepares report for manager and accounting, and handles the administrative duties for the department.
:Processes import and export documentary collections for all four banks' customers. Inputs all documentary collections into the system, prepares collection notices for import documents and notifies customers of documents received. Holds documents for approval or payment authorization from customer. Communicates with customers regarding URC 522 "Uniform Rules for Collections" or with foreign banks on any disputes with documents or payment terms. Makes payment to foreign banks when transaction is accepted by the customer.
:Supports Letter of Credit Specialist I and II; assists with accounting for LC transactions; prepares folders for L.C.s; maintains filing for all import/export and standby folders on a monthly basis; and assists in clearing exceptions as they occur.
:Balances and prepares reports for all department accounts, including accounts receivable and pending foreign items account. Consults with supervisor if entries posted are incorrect or items processed by other employees do not clear the accounts within accounting guidelines for reconciling accounts.
:Processes all vendors' invoice for payment and ensures that general ledger entries for SWIFT (telecommunications system) payments are made on schedule.
:Distributes and opens mail; answers calls for customers that do not leave messages in voice mail; orders supplies; request maintenance for office equipment as needed, and others duties as assigned.
:Through knowledge of accounting principles; good reconciliation skills; good aptitude for detail
:Thorough knowledge and understanding of current world geography
:Excellent PC and software skills, i.e. Excel , Word
:Good oral and written communication skills, including interpersonal skills
:Good problem solving skills and ability to handle several assignments at one time
:Ability to type 55 WPM; 10:key by touchThis level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts or Business or 3 years general office experience preferably in international banking. The ability to speak a foreign language and a good general knowledge of world geography would be helpful because of the exposure to international banks.
